THE COUNTY  WRITES….THE COUNTY READS

Celebrate Flashback February and Valentine’s Day. Peter Lockyer introduces Reflections of Lives and Times in PEC, a new series of 20+ vignettes which will air on County FM. He previews a listening party at Macaulay Church Museum where 5 researchers will discuss one of the stories, play the vignette and take part in a Q & A. From the CWCR archives: Christine Renaud recommends romantic reads and Teira Jean Pickering, Rick Zimmerman, Vanessa Pandos and Sam St. Omer recite classic and contemporary love poems. Anne Heathcote reads Hints for Canadian Housekeeping from The Female Emigrant’s Guide by Mrs. C. P. Traill, published 1854.

TOPICAL ISSUES & CURRENT EVENTS

Lori Borthwick, Green Party candidate, Bay of Quinte, discusses the party’s platform and priorities for the riding and the province.  Jenn Barrett of Hastings and Prince Edward Learning Foundation has an update on the Make Happy Tummies campaign and explains how the program supports over 6,000 students with meals and snacks through the Food for Learning program. County FM’s Jack MacCool reports on the Prince Edward County Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards.

CONSUMER INFORMATION

Someone is diagnosed with Diabetes every three minutes in Canada.  Registered Dietician Kimberly Storms from the Prince Edward Family Health Team joins us to talk about what Diabetes is, how you can detect and prevent it and what the Prince Edward Family Health Team is doing to help County residents deal with this serious illness.

Gregor Stuart of the Millenium Trail Committee tells us about how operations work maintaining it, its partnerships with various County organizations making it better for users, and what lays ahead for the path while under construction in Wellington. 

Most couples say that the ride of a long term relationship has its ups and downs, but when issues are worked through they are stronger as a couple and wiser individuals for it. For our Valentines edition, let’s hear from Psychiatrist, Dr. Joe Burley, how we can be our best in a balanced relationship.

THE COUNTY NATURALLY

The County, Naturally. One of the world’s critical sources of freshwater is right at our doorstep: the Great Lakes. Until last year, there was very little protection for the Great Lakes and none at all for Lake Ontario. In 2024, a 1.722 square mile National Marine Sanctuary was introduced — on the American side of the lake. Now Nature Canada wants to protect some of our side of the lake. Julia Laforge of Nature Canada joins Pamela Stagg to talk about it.

3rd Annual Curl-a-thon for Back The Build Sat Feb 8th:  Donna Purcell broadcasts from the event noon-3pm at the PE Curling Club. Our team 99.3 County FM Rock N Rollers curls at 6pm. Entertainment and food Noon-Midnight, 50/50’s and other items; general public encouraged to come and watch.
