TARIFFS
More than 100 workers at a steel plant in eastern Ontario are being laid off either temporarily or permanently, as the company cuts its workforce due to challenging market conditions including U.S. tariffs.
The United Steelworkers union said 30 workers have already received permanent layoff notices at the Ivaco Rolling Mills plant in L’Orignal, Ont., located about 90 kilometres northeast of Ottawa
Beginning next week, the other 120 workers at the facility are being laid off for one week, the statement read. . Ivaco is the largest employer in the town of 1400 people.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says the G7 is united in supporting a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal for Ukraine, which has been endorsed by Kyiv and is now awaiting a response from Russia.
The G7 foreign ministers met in the remote tourist town of La Malbaie, Que., this week. In comments this morning, Joly said the international community is closely watching Moscow’s reaction and that the ball is now in Russia’s court when it comes to Ukraine.

An American Airlines Flight from Colorado Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) with 172 passengers and six crew members, diverted to Denver late yesterday after the crew reported “engine vibrations.
After landing and taxiing to a gate, the engine burst into flames. All passengers and crew were evacuated, with some waiting on the wing to be rescues. The airport authority said 12 people were transported to hospitals with minor injuries.

An American influencer Sam Jones left Australia on Friday after the government announced it was reviewing her visa over a video she posted of her snatching a baby wombat from its mother.
Jones, who also uses the name Samantha Strable who describes herself as an “outdoor enthusiast and hunter,” made her Instagram account private Thursday after she was widely condemned for the video.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese added his voice to the outrage. “I suggest to this so-called influencer, maybe she might try some other Australian animals. Take a baby crocodile from its mother and see how you go there.
To make matters worse, animal rescue workers noticed in the video that the baby had a skin disease that could lead to death if not treated. Jones did not disclose where she let the young wombat go.

DUKES
The Wellington Dukes are at home tonight in Game 4 of their first round playoff against the Stouffville Spirit. The Dukes finally got on the scoresheet last night after being shutout in Games 1 and 2. Unfortunately, they could not pull off the win, losing in double overtime 5-4.
The puck drops at 7:30 at LeHigh arena.

F1
The F1 racing resumes this weekend. The first race is the Australian Grand Prix. There were major changes in Team driver as 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton had moved to Ferrari after 13 tears with Mercedes. There are several first time full seasons drivers as well.
The first two practice sessions showed that the top teams seem to much more competitive this year. Carlo Sainz who was dropped by Ferrari, was impressive placing former bottom Team Williams near the top after the first practice session, So far the battle seems to be between MacLaren and Ferrari for top spot.
The final practice and qualifying go tonight starting at 9:30. The race is at midnight tomorrow night.
NHL
In the NHL, only the western Canadian teams are in action tonight. The league leading Winnipeg Jets ar at home to the Dallas Stars.
The Calgary Flames who are battling Vancouver for a wild card spot are also at home to the Colorado Avalanche.
