Belleville city councillor Chris Malette will carry the Liberal banner into the federal election for the Bay of Quinte riding. Malette received the official nod from the Central Party following a Liberal team meet and greet. The two-term city councillor wasted no time, aiming at Conservative Party of Canada boss Pierre Poilievre and his former council colleague – now election opponent incumbent Ryan Williams. Along with his role as city councillor Malette is a commissionaire at CFB Trenton. He is also a former longtime respected journalist and City Editor at the Belleville Intelligencer.

Federal Conservative candidate Ryan Williams battled through hail and colder temperatures to hold a campaign office opening in Prince Edward County on Wednesday.
Williams was joined by his campaign team and County officials for the event on 333 Main Street in Picton. Williams and his team also went canvassing in the County, talking to constituents as part of the day. The Picton office opening is part of a series of events which continues on Thursday at noon in Trenton.

Prince Edward County says steady progress has been made in the construction on Wellington’s Main Street over the past two weeks. An accelerated work schedule, involving nighttime work, was implemented earlier this month as construction continues on the Wellington trunkline project. Installation of the new trunk sanitary sewer on Wellington Main Street, between the entrance to the water a he new trunk watermain along Wellington Main Street. The trunk watermain is required to connect new development areas as well as to address fire flow and water pressure issues in the community. The street’s reopening is anticipated for the first part of June, weather dependent.

The newly amalgamated South East Health Unit, which includes the local Hastings-Prince Edward Public Health Unit, is continuing to get fully built through work from its Merger Office. In a report to the board, the Merger Office outlined some of the latest key updates that have been undertaken as the merger continues to unfold. One of the items being worked on is a change management strategy, which includes four main components; communication, change readiness, culture and training. Additionally, efforts are being made on branding & marketing aspects of the health unit, as well as organizational design (i.e. corporate services, Chief Nursing Officer and programs/services), information technology projects and collecting integration success stories. Officials with the Merger Office say an online survey for both staff and Board of Health members to participate in the branding development process is forthcoming.
