Thank you to 99.3 County FM Canada Day sponsors Picton BIA, Green Gables Gifts & Greetings, Baldwin Electric, and Sobey’s Picton
And to the event organizers Picton Canada Day Committee, Picton BIA, Back40 Productions, and Wellington on the Lake Residents
A casualty of COVID-19 Pandemic has been our traditional Canada Day Celebrations. We can’t allow the anniversary of the birth of our country to pass by without celebrating it in some fashion. While we can’t all be together, we can celebrate as if our hearts were connected.
Picton Canada Day Committee is supporting a Countywide virtual celebration.
Right now we encourage everyone to show their Canadian spirit by decorating their homes, their front porches, their garages, their gardens, their dogs, their cats, their kids, or their cars in anything and everything Canadiana. Wave your Canadian Flag proudly. Light your house up in red and white. The key is to be VISIBLE and be CREATIVE and “Paint the Town Red…& White!”
Prince Edward County citizens are encouraged to take a picture and post their creations to social media and tag @CanadaDayPEC. (That part is important!) Every entry will be entered into a weekly draw for a $100 gift card to any local COUNTY based store. Draws every FRIDAY.
The most extravagant, the most outlandish entries will be featured in a surprise Canada Day Virtual Presentation.
We are also running a concurrent contest for the kids. On the Canada Day PEC Facebook page, there is a Colouring Contest sponsored by Jeanette Arsenault and This Is My Canada/Mon Cher Canada. Any kid aged 0-17 is encouraged to draw what it means to them to be a Canadian. Take a photo and post it to the Canada Day PEC Facebook page. All entries tagged with @CanadaDayPEC will be entered into the KIDS draw on Canada Day. (If kids don’t want to draw, then any entry whether its a dance, or a song or a funny video, is acceptable. Any post should be made with parental consent)
The week leading up to Canada Day all residents of Prince Edward County are encouraged to grab sidewalk chalk, and colour all the Main Streets of the County with Canadiana Sayings and Art. If anyone takes a photo and tags @CanadaDayPEC they will be entered into the draw to win a gift card. We want to see the sidewalks, the curbs, the parking spots all filled with colour and artwork.
At 4:30 pm on Canada Day July 1st, thanks to an initiative by Wellington on the lake residents we will be playing O’Canada and encouraging everyone to come out in their yard’s across the County to sing.
And watch for more details as the Picton Canada Day Committee unveils a massive virtual online party with some of the County’s biggest musical acts. Thanks to Back 40 Productions, Canada Day can still be a party.
Let’s fill Prince Edward County with Canadian celebration.
