This is a list of public events that has been declared cancelled/postponed due to public safety concerns around Covid 19 – stay tuned for updates.
Postponed Events:
Hospice Prince Edward (HPE) – announced its comprehensive Covid-19 response plan today. Hospice provides support and service to some of the most vulnerable people in our community, many of whom are elderly, frail, or have serious underlying health conditions. Given the urgent need to stop the spread of COVID-19, Hospice has made some difficult decisions regarding the services they offer.
The number one priority right now is to keep Hospice clients, their families, volunteers, and staff safe. To that end, they are following the advice of the Public Health Authorities and making the following changes to programs, services and events. Changes are in effect until further notice.
Hospice Prince Edward Residence and Administrative Offices:
- The residence will remain open; however, visitors are restricted to immediate family, the healthcare team, and deliveries of medical supplies. Visitors can expect to be screened upon entry to hospice and if showing any signs of illness, will be turned away at the door.
- The Hospice Administrative Office will be closed until further notice. All non-clinical staff will work from home.
In the Community:
- The visiting volunteer program is suspended with case-by-case exceptions; where warranted. Volunteers will continue to provide support remotely via telephone.
- All grief & bereavement group meetings are suspended, effective immediately.
- One on one grief & bereavement support will continue remotely via telephone where possible.
- The 9th Annual Hike for Hospice, scheduled for May 2, will be postponed to a later date.
- The Annual General Meeting and Shred-a-thon are currently TBD.

Kinsmen Club Annual Auction – April 18th is postponed.
Ladies Foresome play at Mt. Tabor playhouse – is postponed until April. At the Mt Tabor playhouse the Ladies Foresome production is temporarily on hold until April (dates pending permissions). Maple Pub Night in Sophiasburgh – March 28th has been postponed.
The Prince Edward County Quilter’s Guild (PECQG) Quilt Show, originally scheduled for July 11 and 12, 2020 has been cancelled and rescheduled for Saturday July 10 and Sunday July 11, 2021. The Prince Edward County Quilters’ Guild Executive and it’s Quilt Show Committee have decided to reschedule our quilt show from July 2020 to July 10-11 2021. We have received approval from the County of Prince Edward to extend our Raffle Quilt draw to Sunday July 11, 2021. All tickets will be valid for the new draw date.
Sarah Harmer’s Show at Empire Theatre – Acclaimed Canadian singer & songwriter Sarah Harmer’s ‘Are You Gone?’ tour to be held this Saturday, is postponed with the date TBA. For more information, please visit our website: theempiretheatre.com.
Cancelled Events:
The Province has ordered the closure of all facilities providing indoor recreation programs, all public libraries, all private schools, all licensed childcare centres, all theatres, cinemas and concert venues, and all bars and restaurants except to provide takeout food and delivery. Groceries and transit remain in operation.
The Municipality has cancelled all March Break activities at its recreation facilities, museums,
and libraries.
May 19th – the Ontario government announced it is keeping schools closed for the rest of this school year. This decision was made after consulting with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, health experts on the COVID-19 Command Table, and medical experts at The Hospital for Sick Children. The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association announced today that it is placing additional programs and activities on hold until further notice.
Closed, effective immediately: Office at 74A King Street, Picton; Thrift Shop at 153 Main Street, Picton; Foot Care Clinics, Active Living Programs, Income Tax, support groups, seminars & Seniors Luncheon Social events.
Programs presently operating with modified schedules, for urgent situations only, and with ongoing rigorous active screening of both clients and volunteers are: Meals on Wheels and Escorted Transportation. Friendly visiting and reassurance programs are still operating by telephone only. The Wellington Dukes hockey season – has been officially cancelled.
PEFAC (Prince Edward Fitness & Aquatic Centre) – is closed March 16th – April 6th.
2020 Milford Fair is cancelled until further notice.
99.3 CountyFM After Dark Party at Karlo Estates – March 28th is cancelled.
Ameliasburgh Garden Club meeting – March 30th Ameliasburgh Town Hall cancelled.
Addictions and Mental Health Services (AMHS) – Hastings Prince Edward (HPE) Closing all office locations.
All Rotary Events – Cancelled until further notice.
– Rotary Club of Picton Meeting is closed on March 17th and no meetings until further notice.
Albert College, Spend a Day – April 3rd is cancelled.
Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward closures:
The Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward announced today that in the interest of keeping staff and clients safe, it is placing all in person programs and activities on hold until further notice and will not be taking any in office visitors. First Link Referral, as well as Education and Support services are still operating by telephone and e-mail.
Closed, effective immediately: office at 470 Dundas Street East, Belleville and our Prince Edward County office at 90 King Street, Picton. These cancellations include the upcoming Caregiver Refill Day. All upcoming in-person support groups, education sessions, and home and office visits are all cancelled. Staff will be reaching out with alternative participation options (phone/Zoom meetings, etc.).
Please call our office for more support. Emails and voicemail will be checked regularly. With respects to our upcoming Shaken Not Stirred fundraiser, as previously issued this event will be postponed until Fall 2020. Arts on Main – temporarily closed effective today.
Beer Store – Beer store cancels return program. Empty returns temporarily suspended. We have temporarily suspended our empty return operations effective March 19th to March 31st.
All bird surveys associated with Birds Canada have been cancelled until further notice. That includes the Marsh Monitoring Program, Swift Watch, Nest Watch and Canadian Lakes Loon Survey this summer.

County Ukulele Band Sessions – Friday, March 13th is cancelled and until further notice.
County Pop – County Music Festival – May 2nd is cancelled.
Food for Souls and Bodies at St Mary Magdalene Anglican Church, Picton – March 24 is cancelled. Also, all services are cancelled until further notice.
Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board (HPEDSB) – The next public Board meeting for Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board meeting was scheduled for Monday, March 23, 2020. It is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Jr Sailing programme for Prince Edward Yacht Club for 2020 has been cancelled.
Maple in the County Event – March 28th & 29th is cancelled.
The Quinte Trash Bash planning committee has decided to postpone the annual event due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak until further notice to help ensure the safety of residents and volunteers.
Held each spring for the last 20 years, the Quinte Trash Bash brings people together to clean up roadsides, parks, and sidewalks in Prince Edward County, Belleville, Quinte West, and Tyendinaga Township. Participation is strong every year with thousands of residents, schools, businesses, and groups volunteering their time to clean up the region.
Litter is especially visible this time of year and a number of residents are collecting garbage along trails and sidewalks when out for a walk. This is a great way to stay active but please follow these precautions:
- Wear gloves
- Use a garbage picker if you have one
- Practice physical distancing of at least two metres apart from others
- Wash your hands with soap and water as soon as you get home

The Hub Child and Family Centre March Break Camp – is cancelled.
Third Annual Period Party for the Storehouse Food Bank and Picton United Church Food Bank – Friday, March 13th is cancelled.
The County Reads Indigenous Literature event at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church – March 15th is cancelled.
The Regent Theatre is temporarily closed – See The Regent Theatre for details.
– HD Operas is cancelled.
– The Regent Theatre Concert Series: Matt Andersen with Shaun Kirk – for March 27th has been postponed due to the public health mandate to reduce gathering to less than 250 people.
The County of Prince Edward is closing all municipal boat launches, effective 11:59 pm on Tuesday, April 14, to discourage unnecessary recreational travel to the municipality during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The launches will remain closed until Tuesday, May 12, which lines up with the 28-day extension of the provincial emergency declaration passed earlier today. The municipality will consider whether to lift the boat launch clousre at that time.
County by-law enforcement will be monitoring the boat launches to ensure compliance with the closure. First responders will continue to have access in order to launch their vessels.
All outdoor amenities in parks and recreational areas are closed in the municipality, as per the provincial order, which has been extended to May 12.

Museum Madness March Break Camp at Macaulay Heritage Park in Picton – is cancelled.
2020 PEC ARTS TRAIL Media Launch event that was scheduled for Monday, March 23rd at 11 AM at the Sybil Frank Gallery in Wellington has been CANCELLED due to the current COVID-19 emergency. We will be sending you a press release and photograph about our 2020 program in the near future.

Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area – is closed. The closure encompasses all the PEP Wildlife areas either side of County Rd 13, Traverse Point Trail, Lighthouse Trail, The Beach and Loop Road, Toilets, Banding Lab and associated trails, Harbour, and All Parking areas. The signs of the closer are been posted throughout the wildlife area.
County Rd 13 through PEP Wildlife Area is a municipal road and remains open.

Prince Edward County Field Naturalists (PECFN) event – Presentation by geology expert Marc Forget in Bloomfield. Tuesday, March 31st cancelled.
The Picton United Church – made the decision early Sunday morning to suspend all P.U.C. worship services and programming until Palm Sunday in support of the nation’s attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. Girl Guides and Weight Watchers has been cancelled until further notice. The Picton United Church will continue to monitor the situation and advise of any further changes.
The Picton United Church Food Bank will continue to remain open as an essential service in our community but has made changes to its operational procedures for the protection of volunteers and clients due to the current COVID 19 pandemic.
Effective Friday March 20, 2020 clients will be provided with pre-selected packages of supplies at the door and entry into the food bank will be restricted to new registrants. The Food Bank has already instituted changes regarding precautionary hygiene requirements. Those registered clients who fall within the identified category of most vulnerable to COVID 19 or have concerns may contact the PUC Food Bank at 613-476-8516. Your call will be returned.
The Picton United Church asks organizations and people wishing to deliver food items to the food bank to call ahead to arrange for receipt of items. Please disinfect packages with a wipe prior to drop off as a precaution.
The safest manner of contributing would be for financial donations to the Picton United Church Food Bank so that we can purchase directly from the supplier. During this COVID 19 pandemic it is anticipated that there will be a higher demand for food supplies. Your support and caring for our community members is greatly appreciated.
Prince Edward Yacht Club (PEYC) – is closed effectively immediately until Thursday, April 2nd, 2020. As our government authorities are encouraging the public to do everything possible to help contain the spread of COVID-19, after much deliberation the Board has decided, in the very best interests of our members and staff, to close the yacht club effective immediately, until Thursday, April 2nd, 2020. The board will continue to monitor the situation and will re-evaluate, giving notice on Monday, March 30th, 2020 should a closure extension be necessary or advisable. The closure extends to the main club, kitchen and chart room annex. For those working on boats in the yard, the washrooms will be accessible using the keypad code. We apologize for any inconvenience the club’s closure may impose, however, we trust you will support and respect our decision to put the health and safety of our membership and staff first.

The County of Prince Edward Public Library is announcing that with regret, the library will be closing all branches until further notice. The Picton Branch will be open from 12 – 4 today, Monday March 16 with limited access – staff will allow up to 5 people at a time to enter to allow everyone to maintain appropriate social distance. Tomorrow, Tuesday March 17 staff will meet to discuss the possibility of book delivery. WIFI will still be available from outside.
The library has ebooks, streaming video and more that you can access anywhere with a library card and internet connection. If you need assistance, library staff will be available by phone at (613) 476-5962 during regular library hours. Interested in using ebooks or streaming video but don’t have a library card? Picton Public Library – Until further notice, all library programs including March Break, computer tutorials, home delivery, musical instrument lending, and community bookings are cancelled effective immediately.
After consulting with Hastings Prince Edward Public Health we will be wiping down all books with disinfectant and, taking this measure, book lending will continue. Rosehaven Yarn Shop in Picton – is still open for the time being for self isolation projects to keep their mental health stable! However, Tuesday Knit Night gathering is cancelled for the next 3 weeks at least. Also cancelling the Wednesday afternoon Knit along and our Friday beginner class. Watch Rosehaven’s facebook page as they’ll be attempting to do a remote knit night through Zoom.
