The South East Health Unit (SEHU) is advising of more measles exposures related to a new single positive case of measles. Exposure locations include the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital Emergency Department in Napanee on April 10 and Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton on April 11. Late last week the health unit also advised of possible measles exposures in Prince Edward County and Quinte West. Locations include Foodland in Picton and Gillingham Brewing Company in Bloomfield on April 4 and Red’s Diner in Trenton on April 6.

The four Bay of Quinte federal political parties took centre stage at Belleville’s Empire Theatre to appeal to local voters at an all-candidates forum Tuesday night. Conservative incumbent Ryan Williams, Liberal candidate Chris Malette, NDP hopeful Kate Crothers and Green Party representative Erica Charlton all took the better part of two hours to talk about federal issues and how they will affect the region. The candidates touched on the topics of housing & affordability, trade and tariffs, social supports, federal funding, community and safety, immigration, skilled trades and much more. Williams stuck to party lines by remaining critical of the past 10 years of Liberal leadership at the federal level. Malette said the Mark Carney government will be supporting local developers such as Springale Development and All-Together Affordable Housing for projects such as the 58-unit Pinecrest project through a Build Canada Homes program. At points throughout the night, Crothers reminded attendees in encouraging votes for the NDP that many of the things enjoyed by Canadians today (i.e. annual paychecks, universal healthcare, etc.) is because of the NDP. After criticizing parties for not fixing critical issues such as the housing crisis in the years between elections, Charlton took the approach of unity, emphasizing the need for all sides of the aisle to work together for the common good.

The number of cross-border travellers going from Canada to the U.S. dropped by nearly 900,000 in March compared to the same month last year, according to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data — easily one of the worst year-over-year drops recorded outside of the COVID-19 health crisis. The border figures show 4,105,516 travellers crossed the U.S. northern border in March of this year, down from 4,970,360 people who did the same in 2024 — a roughly 17 per cent decline that observers say is largely driven by President Donald Trump’s trade war, 51st state taunts and Canada-bashing. In a sign of just how much southbound travel cratered in recent weeks, more people made the trip from Canada to the U.S. in March 2022, when pandemic-related travel restrictions were still in place, than they did in the same month this year.

There was definitely an air of excitement in the Marilyn Adams Genealogical research centre yesterday in Ameliasburgh as the proud members of the Seventh Town historical society cut the ribbon to relaunch the beautiful, functional reimagined research space. It is home to a dedicated group of volunteers who catalogue and preserve volumes of genealogies, records, maps and photos that are housed in the newly renovated library. The research centre has welcomed people from across Canada , the USA as well as international visitors who are interested to find out more about their families. Anyone is welcome and in fact, some of the volunteers will do the research for you. To find out more or to volunteer go to info@seventhtownresearch.com
