Bay of Quinte MPP Tyler Allsopp and Hastings Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee are both taking on new roles in the provincial government. Monday afternoon, Premier Doug Ford announced his team of parliamentary assistants, who he says will take on an essential role in supporting cabinet and delivering on the government’s mandate to protect Ontario against President Trump’s tariffs and economic uncertainty. Allsopp was named as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. He was previously the P.A. for Long-term Care. Hastings Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee was also named again as the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation (returning) and has also been named as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister for Seniors and Accessibility (new).

Highway 401 eastbound is closed after a tractor trailer rollover before 7 o’clock this morning in the area of Shannonville Road. (Tuesday). Traffic is being detoured off of the highway. There were reports of another collision in the same area in the eastbound lanes. It’s not known if there were any injuries. Emergency responders are on scene.

World markets won a reprieve on Tuesday after three days of heavy selling that wiped trillions of dollars off the value of shares, as China vowed to “fight to the end” against additional U.S. tariffs imposed on Beijing. But less than a week since U.S. President Donald Trump unleashed sweeping reciprocal tariffs that sent world markets into a tailspin, the mood remained fragile. The American dollar, which has taken a beating from the tariff turmoil, remained weak against other major currencies. Safe haven currencies, including the yen and the Swiss franc, held near six-month highs to start Tuesday.

Former prime minister Stephen Harper has endorsed Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre for prime minister, saying he has the critical ‘political experience’ needed in a time of crisis. Poilievre met thousands of supporters south of Edmonton… In his endorsement, Harper said Poilievre was the best candidate for a “better, stronger and more united future.” The Conservative party put the crowd estimate at 12,000 people, which would make the rally one of the larger campaign events in Canadian history. Meanwhile Liberal Leader Mark Carney held his own rally in Richmond, B.C. As support for the NDP slips lower and lower in the polls, it appears to have become a two-party race for Western Canada.

Florida and Walter Clayton Jr. somehow overcame Houston’s spirit-crushing defense Monday night to will out a 65-63 victory in an NCAA title-game thriller not decided until Clayton’s own D stopped the Cougars from taking a game-winning shot at the buzzer.
Alex Iafallo scored the game-winner off a rebound at 7:05 of the third period to help the Winnipeg Jets defeat the red-hot St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Monday and register a franchise-record 53rd win of the season.
Adam Klapka and Morgan Frost scored 2:48 apart midway through Calgary’s three-goal third period, and the Flames rallied to beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2
Cutter Gauthier scored two goals in the second period and Lukas Dostal made a season-high 47 saves in the Anaheim Ducks’ 3-2 victory over the short-handed Edmonton Oilers

Former NHL goaltender and longtime hockey broadcaster Greg Millen has died at 67. The NHL Alumni Association announced his death Monday but did not provide a cause. Millen spent 14 years in the NHL from 1978-92, playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago and the Detroit Red Wings.
