Prince Edward County Council will endorse a project to fund the purchase
of three vehicles for County Transit's use. The decision was made on
Tuesday evening at the Prince Edward County Council meeting at Shire
Hall. The total project cost is $522,051, funded in full by grant contributions
from provincial and federal sources. The purchase includes one Diesel gas
bus (18 seats) with bike racks, one disel gas van (5 to 11 seats) with bike
racks and one diesel gas accessible bus (5 to 11 seats). Council will be
asked to approve a by-law to execute the TPA in a future meeting's agenda
before the agreement is signed, before funding is received and before the
project commences.

Early in the council meeting last night there was a surprise announcement by
Councillor Cory Engelsdorfer stating that he will be making a motion of non
confidence in the mayor at a future council meeting that will be seconded by
councillor Prinzen when the time comes. The statement was in regards to the
massive water project taking place in Wellington where the Main street is
completely closed to traffic requiring residents and business people to take a 15
km. detour on hazardous roads. Councillor Engelsdorfer said that he was never in
favour of the project but that it was the intent of council. He stated that it didn’t
have to be this way and that his trust has been broken. He continued saying It’s
time the council understood how much trust has been eroded in our institution
and we must find a way to bring it back.

Staff Sergeant John Hatch gave his last annual report to council last night . He will
be retiring the end of the month and gave a comprehensive report showing
numbers demonstrating how safe it is in Prince Edward County. His efforts over
the years to support state of the art changes has resulted in a detachment that is
the gold standard for rural policing in Ontario. Many of the councillors
commended Hatch for his work and wished him well to a standing ovation.

The United States said on Tuesday that 104 per cent duties on imports
from China will take effect shortly after midnight, even as the Trump
administration moved to quickly start talks with other trading partners
targeted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariff plan. U.S.
stocks dropped on Tuesday for a fourth straight trading day since Trump’s
tariffs announcement last week, with the S&P 500 closing below 5,000 for
the first time in almost a year. The index is now 18.9 per cent below its
most recent high on Feb. 19, close to the 20 per cent decline that defines a
bear market. S&P 500 companies have lost $5.8 trillion US in stock market
value since Trump’s tariff announcement last Wednesday, the deepest
four-day loss since the benchmark was created in the 1950s.

Rescuers frantically searched overnight for more survivors in the rubble of
the iconic Jet Set nightclub in the Dominican Republic's capital, more than
24 hours after the roof collapsed during a merengue concert attended by
politicians, athletes and others. At least 98 people were killed in the
collapse early Tuesday. Officials said at least 160 people were injured in
the collapse, among them national lawmaker Bray Vargas. Those
confirmed dead included a provincial governor and two former Major
League Baseball players.

It’s fierce, majestic beast that disappeared thousands of years ago, save
for artistic renderings in books and on screen. Or, maybe, it’s just a grey
wolf with a few tweaks. American biotech company Colossal Biosciences
made a surprise announcement Monday, claiming it had brought the dire
wolf back from the dead, thus achieving the company’s first successful de-
extinction”. But some scientists say that while the wolves existence is an
impressive feat, they are not exactly as advertise, saying they are not dire
wolves. There are grey wolves that have some dire wolf characteristics…
but did say they seem to be closer to dire wolves than anything else
anybody’s seen for 13,000 years
