A Canada Summer Jobs Grant allows 99.3 County FM to hire help for 8 weeks this summer.

The only radio station which exclusively focuses on serving the needs of the rural Prince Edward County.  We operate a not for profit, volunteer driven, community radio station that reflects and contributes to the richness, diversity, public safety and economic vitality of Prince Edward County. As an essential service we provide 24/7 news, entertainment, programming, and emergency messaging. More details at www.993countyfm.ca

The summer employee will assist in a few areas of the broadcast facility. You will enjoy a wide variety of experiences.

You will be involved with our coverage of news and community events, assisting the news & programming team in gathering, and producing & voicing local stories.  You’re involved in the admin and marketing side when it comes to the station being involved with the community at large and special events. And, you wll have the opportunity to assist with audio production.

Overall supervision is by the General Manager while the appropriate staff or volunteer mentor provides the applicant with duties in their given areas of expertise. For example, the Production Team leader directs and mentors the student in requirements for on-air production including working with editing software and preparing live segments for rebroadcast. The News Director supports delivery of on-air content.  The team works together to provide constant feedback on the week’s activities, skills mastered and areas for improvement.

Additionally, we teach media broadcasting skills such as active listening, interviewing techniques, news writing, story writing, social media marketing skills as they pertain to a professional broadcast environment, handling remote equipment, using sound editing software, and planning music show segments.

The station has a strict policy of inclusion and respectful treatment of all staff and volunteers.  We do have wheelchair accessibility and are adept at working with students with special needs.  Wheelchair accessibility 8am-5pm weekdays.

Requirements: Able to work from the station and/or home and have a reliable, reasonably robust, internet connection and computer access at home. We will develop a schedule so that it’s a combination of work from the radio station and from whatever alternate site works for you.

The role can lead to work in various types of media from Journalism to Radio Broadcast to Multimedia Production.  Other types of career that can stem from the skills gleaned include PR, Marketing, Public Speaking, and Community Service.
